William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare.

William Shakespeare is considered by many to be the greatest playwright of all time, although many facts about his life remain shrouded in mystery. He lived during the reigns of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I and coined hundreds of new words and phrases that we still use today.

His books can be quite challenging to read for grown-ups, never mind children! However, Andrew Matthews has rewritten a selection of his plays so that children can read and enjoy them. If you would like to read one of Shakespeare's plays, I have a selection in my office that you are welcome to borrow.

All I ask is that you have a really good go at reading one of the plays and post some information on my blog.

It can really help if you read a play in a small group so that you can help each other. You could find a quiet space in the playground or on the field to read at lunchtime perhaps.

Mr Wright.

    The Taming of the Shrew
It is about a man called Baptista who had 2 daughters. One of the daughters was called Bianca and the other one was called Katherina. They both had equal beauty but Katherina was a bad tempered lady who men called the Shrew. This story is about marriage. Katherina was double jealous because of her sisters beauty. One day Baptista was sick and tired of Katherina's complaining and announced that until Katherina was married his other daughter will be locked away in a cellar. A strong man called Petruchio wished to marry Katherina and fix her ways. At the end they both got married. THE END!!!

  11. Mr Wright have facts about William Shakespeare.
Shakespeare lived to 52. It is known that he was born in April 1564 and that he died on 23rd April 1616. We know that he was baptised on 26th April 1564 and scholars now believe that he was born on April 23rd. He therefore died on his fifty-second birthday, coinciding with St George’s Day. How fitting that the great English writer is so closely identified with the patron saint of England.
Shakespeare was buried in the Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon. He put a curse on anyone daring to move his body from that final resting place. His epitaph was:

Good friend for Jesus’ sake forbear,
To dig the dust enclosed here:
Blest be the man that spares these stones,
And curst be he that moves my bones.

That's all I know about Mr Wright
